Local paddlers place at Pan American Championships

Katy Hill and Morgan Smith, members of the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club, teamed up for a fifth place finish in the Junior K2 1000-meter finals during Day 1 of the 2010 Sprint Pan American Championships held Thursday in Mexico City.

Both Hill and Smith also qualified for the Junior K1 1000-meter finals.

Luke Potts and Zach Robertson, also members of LCKC, took fifth in the men’s Junior K2 1000-meter finals. Potts finished third in his K1 heat to advance straight to the finals.

In the senior qualifiers, Morgan House of Gainesville teamed up with Patrick Dolan of Kailua, Hawaii to place third in the Men’s K2 1000-meter heat and progress directly to the finals.

The 2010 Sprint Pan American Championships will continue today at the site of the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City.
