Local golf: Sutton scores 1st hole-in-one

Bill Sutton scored his first ever hole-in-one during the Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association’s two-best-ball, aggregated net points game on Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course. Sutton aced the par-3 third hole from 115 yards out with a 9-iron club. Event partners Denny Momper, Don Wells and Bob Layne witnessed the feat.

Gene Weschler, Jim Hollobaugh, Eddie Johnson and Joe Cronmiller won the event on Wednesday. The teams of Roy Bartlett, Ed Pledger and Dave Gleason, Carlyle Cox, Karl Goellner and Nick Grillo, Jack Costello, A.J. Kiker, Jim Griffin and Wayne Nelson, and Jere Cochran, Clay Bartlett, Bill Holleman and Johnny Little all tied for second place.

Closest to the pin winners were Sutton (No. 3), Harry Barnett (No. 5), Pledger (No. 12) and Cochran (No. 17).

REUNION: Larry Viola, Don Smith, Whitey Clarke and Autry Smith won the Reunion Senior Men’s Golf Association’s first event of 2013 on Wednesday in Hoschton.

Brian Wilson, Bob Wischerth, Bill Wagner and Joe Simon came in second, and Ted Sawyer, Mike Defantis, Rick Feniello and Dick Kreusch were third.

Closest to the pin winners were Sawyer (No. 3) and Mike Reiland (No. 11).

DOGFIGHT: Jim Foote, Tommy Calhoun, Roger Stapp and Terry Clegg won the three-best-ball event at the Wednesday dogfight last week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

Luke James, Jim Arendt, Bob Arendt and Darrel Pinner finished in second place.

Individually, Stapp finished in first with a score of 65, Bob Arendt was second with a 66, and Tom Frier and Jeff Frasier tied for third with scores of 69.

DPG: Horace Smallwood won the Dedicated Players Group event last Monday at Chicopee Woods Golf Course. Dennis Jones took second place, and Dwight Miller and Norm Phillips tied for third.

On Wednesday, Denis Jordan finished in first place, Smallwood was second and Jones was third.

Charley Kilby took first place on Friday and Dave Jetter came in second.
