Local golf: Smallwood takes first in Luna's outing at Chattahoochee

Don Smallwood, Doug Van, Jerry Johns and Larry Cleek teamed up to take first place as the Luna's Tuesday Golf Group played at Chattahoochee Golf Course this week.

Second place went to Joe Roberts, Johnny Nix, Tommy Lowery and Cleve Brown, with Stan Davidson Jr., Nelson Wright, Jim Cornett and Don Rogers placing third.

Closest to the pin winners were Roberts on No. 3, Smallwood on No. 5 and No. 12, and Davidson on No. 17.

DPG: Doug Padgett carded a score of +3 to take first place Monday as the DPG played at Chicopee Woods Golf Course. Steven Knowles (+1) was second, and Horace Smallwood (-1) was third.

Norm Phillips took first place Wednesday with a +2, while Jerry Shell was second at +1, and Dennis Jones was third with an even score. On Friday, Shell's +7 was good enough for first. Smallwood carded a +4 to place second.

CMGA: The team of Dick Bachman, Bob Henderson, Ben Brooks and Wayne Nelson placed first Wednesday as the Chattahoochee Men's Golf Association played a two best-ball, aggregated net-points game at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Second place went to Eddie Johnson, Don Gage, David Nesom and Bill Sutton. The team of Bob Pyne, Larry Cohan, Jere Cochran and John Beem tied Gene Weschler, Clay Bartlett, Guy Long and Jimmy Johnson for third.

The team of Jack Costello, Johnny Little, A.J. Kiker and Ron Hopley rounded out the top five.

Closest to the pin winners were Bachman on No. 3, Bud Clegg on No. 5, Dave Long on No. 12 and Weschler on No. 17.

CLGA: Ann Hollobaugh won first flight low gross, and Violet Reynolds won first flight low net, as the Chattahoochee Ladies Golf Association played its spring tournament Tuesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Sue Cronmiller (low gross) and Nora Gleason (low net) won the second flight, while Jeanne Tompkins (low gross) and Jewell Floyd (low net) won the third.

Closest to the pin winners were Mona White on No. 3 and Hollobaugh on No. 17.
