Hope takes lead at Chicopee

Walter Hope carded a 69 on Saturday to take a 1-stroke lead over Joe Ingram in the regular division of the Chicopee Woods Senior Championship.

Ingram carded a 72 in the super senior division and leads Fluff Gillespie by five strokes and Leroy Harper by six strokes.

Ingram won both divisions last year and enters the second round four shots ahead of Duane Roberts and five shots ahead of Dan Arthurs and Tommy Calhoun in the regular division.

CLGA:The Chattahoochee Ladies’ Golf Association played a low gross, low-net event Tuesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

First place in the low-gross competition was Ann Hollobaugh, with Mona White finishing second.

Sue Cronmiller and Carolyn Palmer tied for first place in the low-net event, while Ann White finished second.

Closest to the pin winners were Ann White on No. 3 and Hollobaugh on No. 17.

LUNA: The Luna’s Tuesday Golf Group played at the Orchard in Clarkesville this week.

Joe Campbell, Jerry Ward, Steve Hill and Frank House took first place with second place going to Gene Weschler, Cleve Brown, Doug McMahan and Sam McGee.

Third place went to the team of Bud Black, Anthony Barrett, Jerry Johns and Chad Pierce.

Closest to the pin winners were Johns on No. 2, Campbell on No. 7, Larry Miller on No. 11 and Stan Davidson Jr. on No. 13.

CMGA: The Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association played its quarterly scramble Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

First place went to the team of Gene Weschler, Denny Momper, Don Gage and Dave Valent, while second place went to the team of Paul Payne, Eddie Johnson and Dave Long.

Richard McClure, Stu Virgin and Bob Watson teamed up for third and fourth place went to the team of Dick Bachman, Bill Kinser, Guy Long and Greg Taira.

Closest to the pin winners were Kinser on No. 3, John Shepherd on No. 5, Joe Kolesar on No. 12 and Clay Bartlett on no. 17.

DOGFIGHT: The team of Mark Black, Don Schrum, Richard Drye and Terry McFarland carded a net score of 22-under to win the Wednesday Dogfight at Chicopee Woods golf course this week.

Roger Stapp, Bud Chandler, Yoshi Kellchi and Glen Whitmire combined for 18-under to place second.

Drye took first place in the individual competition with a 67, while Whitmire placed second with a 68.

Bill Jorgenson took third with a 70 and Stapp, Kellchi, Jerry Horton, Simmie Miller, Chandler and Black each fired a 71 to tie for fourth.

DPG: The DPG played matches Wednesday and Friday this week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

On Wednesday, Denis Jordan took first place with a score of +7.

Horace Smallwood was second with a +5, while Bob Kidd and Terrence Dale tied for third with +3.

Friday’s match was won by Smallwood with a +1.

Ken Lightfoot and Jerry Shell tied for second with an even score.
