Gainesville's Ralston placed second in junior event at Pinehurst
Shot a two-day 145 on 36 holes

Gainesville’s Spencer Ralston placed second in the 12-14 year old age group Dec. 29 at the two-day, 36-hole Donald Ross Junior Golf Championship in Pinehurst, N.C. After carding a 5-over par (145) through two rounds and in a three-way tie for the top spot, he finished with a par on the playoff hole to take second. On the first day, Ralston shot a 2-over (72) and rounded out the tournament with a 73 during the final round.

Eric Bae’s (Cary, N.C.) birdie in the playoff hole solidified the tournament title. Davis Richards (China Grove, N.C.) had a bogey in the playoff to take third place.

The event was split into three age divisions: 11-and-under, 12-14, and high school students 15-18. The 11-and-under and 12-14 Divisions played at Pinehurst No. 1, while the 15-18 division plays Pinehurst No. 4 and Pinehurst No. 5, rotating courses after the first round.

In the 15-18, Gainesville’s Grant Lasseter finished in a tie for 37th with a 9-over (153). In the 11-and-under category, Gainesville’s Ryan Hogan placed 11th.
