Flowery Branch teen named to Pan-Am baseball team

Jonathan Hughes of Flowery Branch is one of 18 players who will make up the 2011 14U National Team. The club will travel to San Felipe, Venezuela, to compete in the Pan Am 14U Championships, Aug. 11-22

Hughes, who will play pitcher and outfield, went 4-for-9 with three RBIs and stole three bases while playing for the Red Team in a series of four games used to determine the team members.

The 14U team will play intrasquad games and scrimmage against the Charlotte’s Canes 15U team in Cary, N.C. before leaving for Venezuela. The U.S. will play its first game on Aug.12 against Brazil.

Pitcher Addison Albright and infielder Chris Cullen, both of Cumming, were also selected for the team.
