Father of former Gainesville High WR dies from brain aneurysm

Andre Jones, the father of former Gainesville High wide receiver Tai-ler Jones, died Wednesday after suffering a brain aneurysm in Atlanta. He was 42.

Andre Jones was a four-year linebacker at Notre Dame (1987-1990) and was a starter on their 1988 national championship team.

In his career, Jones recorded 147 career tackles and 12 tackles for a loss. As a senior in 1990, he finished second on the team with 58 tackles.

Out of college, Jones was picked by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round of the 1991 draft. He also played for the Detroit Lions (1992) and Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League.

Tai-ler Jones finished his freshman season as a wide receiver for the Fighting Irish by starting seven games and catching 23 balls for 306 yards this year.

Visitation is scheduled from 3-5 p.m. Saturday at Roswell Presbyterian Church with the funeral to follow.
