Piedmont baseball, Brenau tennis advance in postseason
TMC's Fryman named second team all american

Kevin Caldwell threw eight strong innings, and the Piedmont College baseball team scored six runs in the sixth inning en rout to defeating Salisbury University 10-1 in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA South Regional Tournament on Wednesday. The win was only the second NCAA postseason victory in school history for the third-seeded Lions (31-13).

Piedmont will face second-seeded Shenandoah University in the winner's bracket.

FRYMAN: Truett-McConnell College baseball player Nick Fryman has been named an NCAA Second Team All American, announced this week. Fryman, a junior from Acworth, hit .371 with eight doubles, two triples, seven home runs and drove in 48 runs this season.

BRENAU TENNIS: The Brenau University tennis team defeated Vanguard University, 5-4, in the second round of the NAIA National Championship on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals.

NGCSU: Seven North Georgia softball players have been named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger All-Region team, announced Thursday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Jessica Coan, Katherine Martin, Hilary Cox, Kasey Knight, and Ansley Williams all earned first-team honors, while Sarah Phillips and Pilar Harden were named to the second team.
