Pair of North Georgia Nighthawks players earn weekly Peach Belt Conference honors

The University of North Georgia’s Steven Bower has been named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Bower had the best start of his career against Florida Tech on Saturday, pitching his first complete game as a Nighthawk. He scattered three hits and three walks in his nine innings on the mound for North Georgia, while striking out seven.

North Georgia’s Kylee Smith has been named the Peach Belt Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Smith went 3-0 on the week in the circle for the No. 4 Nighthawks, including a complete-game, two-hit shutout of Spring Hill.

Smith picked up another win against No. 8 Saint Leo, allowing just five hits without surrendering an earned run.

She also earned her first career save, coming in to close the door in Saturday’s win over Eckerd. Smith leads the league in wins (11), strikeouts (91), and sports the second-best ERA in the league (0.92).
