Shelby Hammontree hit a pair of home runs, and the 12th ranked University of North Georgia softball team swept rival-Young Harris on Saturday Afternoon at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium.
A fifth-inning two-run home run by Hammontree put the Nighthawks (35-9) ahead for good in a 4-2 win in Game 1. And only up a run in the fifth inning of the nightcap, Hammontree's second two-run shot of the day gave the Nighthawks some needed insurance in a 7-3 win.
Kaylyn Anthony plated the final run in Game 2 with a RBI-double to center field.
North Georgia welcomes Union (Tenn.) to Hill Stadium at 1 p.m. on Tuesday in Dahlonega.
Trevor Sams homered twice, Michael Gouge added a two-run shot and The fifth-ranked University of North Georgia baseball team downed Young Harris 13-2 behind an offensive onslaught on Saturday at Zall Miller Field.
Sams (3 for 5, two RBI, three runs scored), Bill Leroy (3 for 4, two runs scored), and Conner Corbitt (3 for 5, two RBI, three runs scored) combined for nine of the Nighthawks' 18 hits.
Daniel McCrary pitched all nine innings for the Nighthawks to pick up his sixth win of the season. McCrary allowed five hits and gave up two runs -- both earned -- but struck out five and walked one batter.
North Georgia (28-7) will look for the series sweep against Young Harris at 1 p.m. today in Young Harris.
