The North Georgia College & State University softball team won 8-1, 5-2 against Georgia Southwestern on Friday afternoon in Americus.
In Game 1, Jessica Coan (19-5) tossed a complete game and gave up no earned runs, while striking out 16 batters for the Lady Saints (30-6, 4-2 Peach Belt Conference).
Sarah Johnson lined a single up the middle to plate a pair of runs and give the Saints a 2-1 lead.
North Georgia continued to add to its lead in the seventh inning, scoring six runs on four hits, including a grand slam off the bat of Johnson to give the Saints an 8-1 come-from-behind victory.
Kayla Minger got the scoring going for North Georgia in Game 2 when her RBI double allowed Karlie Gillam to come around and score to give the Saints an early 1-0 lead.
Minger finished 1 for 3 and also drew a walk.
Senior Hilary Cox blew the game open the next inning when her three-run home run gave the Saints a 4-0 lead over the host Hurricanes.
The Saints visit Columbus State for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Sunday.
LIONS LACROSSE FALLS BEHIND EARLY: Max Rowse led Piedmont with three goals in a 20-9 loss against Carthage College on Thursday in Demorest.
Carthage jumped out to a 6-0 lead and scored seven times in the second period to go into the break leading 11-2.
Steve Blanchard scored an unassisted goal in the second period to put the Lions on the board, and assisted Spencer Ortis just before the break.
Blanchard added three assists for Piedmont.
The Lions host Huntingdon College at 4 p.m. April 4.
