Young Harris swept their first softball doubleheader of the season as it defeated Tusculum College 6-5 and 8-0 on Thursday in Young Harris.

The Mountain Lions rallied from a five-run deficit in Game 1 as Stacia Williams had a game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh to take the 6-5 win.

Young Harris’ Paige Sexton drove in a run with a ground out, and Callie Holloway hit a three-run homer to tie the game in the sixth.

Henry (1-0) picked up the win with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

The Mountain Lions (6-6) travel to North Greenville University for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday in Tigerville, S.C.

YOUNG HARRIS 8, TUSCULUM 0: In Game 2, the Mountain Lions scored in every inning but the second. Young Harris took a 2-0 lead in the first off of three walks by the Tusculum pitchers. Jones drove in both runs with a single to left.

Sexton, Amber Statham and Sydnee Weaver, each had an RBI while Spradling added a two-run single in the fourth for the Mountain Lions. Darby Stanford (4-2) picked up the win from the mound.


BRENAU 79, BREWTON-PARKER 73 (Wednesday): Sarah Ward recorded 24 points for the Golden Tigers in their final regular-season game on Wednesday in Mount Vernon.

Gabby Harvey aided the Tigers with 12 points and 15 rebounds, and Nikki Reed had eight points and 11 rebounds.

Brenau finished the regular season 15-15 and 6-13 in the Southern States Athletic Conference and await the end of conference play to determine whether they will play in the SSAC Tournament.
