The Young Harris College women’s basketball team trailed 25-20 at halftime, but rallied in the second half to earn the 38-33 win over Tennessee Temple on Thursday in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Young Harris (10-13) was led by Lauren Smith with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and LaDondra Johnson with 10 points.
The Lady Mountain Lions face Brenau University at 6 p.m. Monday in Gainesville for their last regular season game.
Softball
PIEDMONT COLLEGE SWEEPS TRUETT-MCCONNELL (WEDNESDAY): Senior B.J. Cofer and freshman Brittney Head each earned wins from the circle as the Lady Lions won their season opening doubleheader, 4-0, 7-2, at the Walker Athletic Complex in Demorest.
Cofer tossed a complete-game shutout, while allowing just four hits for Piedmont (2-0). Head came on in relief in Game 2, throwing 5 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five.
The freshman came into a bases loaded, one-out situation in the second and retired the next two batters on the way to collecting the first win of her Piedmont career. The Lady Lions will participate in the Early Bird Tournament beginning at 10 a.m. Feb. 25 with a game against the host school, Methodist College.
