Jaymee Carnes scored 40 points, leading the North Georgia Lady Saints to a 86-67 victory over Brenau on Friday night in Dahlonega.
Carnes’ 40 points were a school record, and she also grabbed 18 rebounds and had nine blocks. Carnes, a Gainesville High graduate who began her college career at Wake Forest, has a recorded a double-double in all three games this season and has scoring average of 30.1.
Freshman Stephanie Huffman finished with a career-high 19 points and five assists.
Brenau (4-4) could not find an answer for Carnes as she was double and triple-teamed all night long. Switching from man to zone defenses, the Tigers tried different ways to neutralize the sophomore, none of which prevailed.
The Tigers were led by Brittney Wiley who finished with 16 points. Nikki Reed added 13 points to go along with her six rebounds and Gabby Harvey finished with 10 points.
Carnes’ 40 points in a single game passes the previous record held by Whitney Randolph and is also career-high for her as well.
Carnes transferred to North Georgia to play closer to home and it’s a move that coach Buffie Burson is enjoying more and more each game.
“Jaymee studies her opponents and knows what to expect in the post,” Burson said. “She was absolutely phenomenal and led us on both ends of the floor tonight.”
North Georgia returns to action against Tusculum at 4 p.m. Saturday for its second game of the 2011 X-Trem Thanksgiving Classic.
