The No. 3 North Georgia softball team split a doubleheader against Flagler on Thursday in St. Augustine, Florida.
Nighthawks pitcher Kylee Smith sent down the final 16 batters she faced in Game 1, but North Georgia (23-7, 3-2 Peach Belt Conference) fell 2-1 after mustering only one run off the bat of Kaylyn Anthony in the top of the first inning.
The Nighthawks’ struggles on offense spilled over in the second game before their bats came alive late for a 4-0 win. A wild pitch sent North Georgia’s first runner home in the top of the fifth before Sydney Sprague blasted a solo home run.
A Flagler fielding error gave the Nighthawks their third run, and Alishia Frierson belted an RBI single up the middle in the seventh inning.
Amber Johns secured the win thanks to seven strikeouts through 6 innings pitched.
North Georgia will travel to UNC-Pembroke at 1 p.m. Saturday.
