A five-run fifth inning propelled the No. 4 North Georgia softball team to a 6-0, weather-shortened win against Montevallo on Saturday.
Heavy rain forced officials to end the game in the middle of the sixth inning. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader will be postponed until a later date.
Stephanie Hartness, who finished 2 for 2 at the plate, blasted a two-run homer for the Nighthawks (22-6, 2-1 Peach Belt Conference) in their big fifth inning. North Georgia’s Sydney Sprague hit her PBC-leading eigth home run of the season to open the scoring in the top of the third.
Kylee Smith (15-2) picked up the win, recording eight strikeouts while giving up only two hits.
The Nighthawks return to action at 2 p.m. Tuesday when they host a doubleheader against Lee University.
