DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The 17th-ranked University of North Georgia softball team swept Saturday's doubleheader by winning a tight game in game one before run-ruling the visiting Lander Bearcats in the second game of the nightcap for the Nighthawks' third straight victory.
In Game 2, Sydney Sprague was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI's to lead the Nighthawks' batting order, while Amber Johns (8-2) picked up the win from the circle. Johns allowed just four hits while strikeing out one.
In Game 1, Jordan Deep (1 for 2) connected for a fourth-inning solo home run to put the Nighthawks ahead for good in a narrow victory.
The Nighthawks (33-9, 13-4 Peach Belt Conference) play a pair of midweek doubleheaders, hosting Lee on Wednesday, and then Belmont Abbey on Thursday. Wednesday's twin bill against the Flames is set for 3 p.m.
BASEBALL
The fifth-ranked University of North Georgia baseball team won a weekend series over Montevallo following a decisive 15-4 win Sunday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium.
With the win, the Nighthawks improve to 25-7 overall and 11-4 in the Peach Belt Conference.
