College notebook: NGCSU soccer settles for tie in regular season finale

North Georgia College soccer settled for a 1-1 tie in the final game of its regular season against No. 18 Armstrong.

As a result of the tie, North Georgia (14-1-1, 8-1-1) will settle for the No. 2 seed in the Peach Belt Conference tournament, which will begin on Tuesday. Armstrong (12-2-3, 9-0-1) will get the No. 1 seed.

North Georgia will host its opening game.

After trailing for most of the game, the Lady Saints’ Emily Dover scored in the 80th minute to tie the game at one apiece. It was Dover’s league-leading 14th score of the year.

NORTH GEORGIA COLLEGE REINSTATES WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY: The Lady Saints’ women’s cross country program will return to competition in the 2012-13 academic year.

The program was discontinued in 2010 due to reductions in funding.

Coaching the team will be Tom Williams, formerly of Walton High. Williams coached Walton for 20 years, leading it to 14 state championship appearances.

Regional events
