The Brenau University softball program came up short in their first game of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics women’s softball national championships qualifiers, losing 6-0 to Georgia Gwinnett College on Monday in Lawrenceville.

The Grizzlies recorded 11 hits against Golden Tigers pitcher Jessica Rathjje. Brenau shortstop Lexi Cash, first baseman Elizabeth Schneider, second baseman Cheyenne Marsh, third baseman Mason Garland and catcher Savannah Moore each recorded hits.

With the loss, Brenau faces Milligan College (Tennessee) at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in an elimination game.

“We’re going to have to hit the ball a little better and we’re going to have to execute a little bit better at the plate,” said Golden Tigers Head Coach Devon Thomas. “We’ve got to get back into the swing of things.

“(Tuesday) we’ve got to do what we’ve got to get back.”
