The No.12-ranked Brenau University softball team pounded out 34 hits to sweep a doubleheader against South States Athletic Conference rival Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday.
Brenau won Game 1,10-0, in six innings and won the second game 12-4 in five innings.
The Golden Tigers move to 25-8-1 on the season and maintain second place in the SSAC at 16-5-1.
Freshman Tiffany Schandera had a big day at the plate with five hits, seven RBIs and a home run for the Golden Tigers. Sophomore Morgan Smith broke her own school record for home runs, picking her 11th on the season in the second game.
Freshman pitcher Anna Maness picked up her 16th win of the season in the first game, striking out nine. She is carrying a 1.65 earned run average for the season.
Brenau collected 18 hits in the first game, led by Schandera, Smith and Colleen Sparrow with three hits apiece. Schandera had four RBIs and Smith had three for Brenau.
Taylor Shrader, Lana Lazar and Maness each had two hits and Brooke Bryant, Sarah Applegarth and Ellen Black each had one. Maness and Black each had one RBI in the first game.
In game two, Black threw seven strikeouts from the mound and two hits at the plate.
Brenau had 14 hits, with Schandera and Bryant each going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Schandera hitting a two-run home run in the second inning.
Austin Smith went 2-for-2 with an RBI double, Caitlin Kelly had two hits and two RBIs and Applegarth, Shrader and Lazar each had one hit.
Brenau returns to action against No.19 Auburn University-Montgomery at 5 p.m. Monday at the Lanier Point Softball Complex.
