Brenau University’s Ashley Hagans scored 21 points with three steals and Paige Cooper added 12 points in a 69-63 loss to Shorter College on Saturday in Gainesville. Meg Henson, a Gainesville High graduate, had 10 points, five assists and four steals for the Golden Tigers (11-5, 3-3 SSAC).
Despite trailing 10-2 early, Brenau rallied back to lead 33-28 going into halftime. However, Shorter battled back in the second half thanks to a 44-22 rebounding advantage for the game and shot 44 percent from the field.
Despite the loss, the Golden Tigers forced 26 turnovers in all.
“We did a good job with our pressure defense, but the poor rebounding effort cost us dearly,” Brenau coach Gary Bays said. “Our shot selection was not what it should have been either.”
Ashley Harris led the Hawks with 16 points and six rebounds, and Shelby Farrer had 15 points and seven rebounds.
Brenau plays host to Emmanuel College at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Gainesville.
