With a two-round score of 140, Dawsonville resident James Bowen qualified for the 108th annual U.S. Amateur Championship. After carding a first-round 68 on Monday, Bowen shot a 72 on Tuesday to finish the tournament tied for second at 4-under. The winners, Brent Witcher and Jack Hall, finished at 7-under. The 2008 U.S. Amateur Championship is Aug. 18-24 at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C.
