KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Atlanta Braves right-hander Jair Jurrjens managed to make his spring debut, anyway.

Jurrjens threw two scoreless innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday before the game was called after three due to showers that washed away the exhibition slate in Florida.

Jurrjens had been struggling with inflammation around his right shoulder and manager Bobby Cox decided to be cautious. Jurrjens, who turned 24 in January, went 14-10 with a 2.60 ERA for the Braves last season.

Jurrjens was supposed to start Wednesday against the New York Yankees, but the game was called due to rain. He made the 90-mile bus ride to Tampa and said it was tough to get back into his rhythm for a second straight day, but he said his arm felt fine. He was more concerned with how he would feel Saturday.

"I'll know when I see how it bounces back," he said.

Jurrjens struck out leadoff hitter Andrew McCutchen on three pitches. He stayed in as the showers got worse.

"It was tough pitching in this, but I was just anxious to get on the mound," he said. "I was ready (Thursday) and that got rained out, so I just wanted to pitch."

Jurrjens is a key part of Atlanta's deep rotation, and Cox said he was impressed with his effort in the conditions.

"He made the best out of a really bad day," Cox said. "He had his slider and his fastball working. That's important for him."

Braves right-hander Tommy Hanson, who was scheduled to pitch four innings, threw 66 pitches in a simulated game. He struck out seven and allowed one hit.

Cox said he took off for the batting cages once the rain started and watched Hanson, who went 11-4 with a 2.89 ERA last year as a rookie.

"I got to see it," Cox said. "He was really something out there. Four innings, seven strikeouts? Not bad."

Ross Ohlendorf pitched 1 1-3 scoreless innings for Pittsburgh, allowing two hits and a walk. The right-hander was on the mound during the first rain delay and didn't return.

"I wasn't bad today, especially for spring training," said Ohlendorf, who was 11-10 with a 3.92 ERA for the Pirates last season. "I kept everything on the ground. Obviously I am not at midseason form, but I got some time in the cages and threw a couple more innings. I would have liked to have gone three innings, but not in this weather."

NOTES: The Pirates were leading 1-0 when the game was called. ... Former Braves pitcher Tom Glavine, who won 305 games, will arrive in camp on Tuesday. He was hired last month as a special assistant to Braves president John Schuerholz. ... Cox said RHP Derek Lowe (blister) isn't expected to miss any time.
