MIAMI — The Atlanta Braves have released right-hander Jeff Bennett.
A team spokesman said Bennett asked for and was granted his released from the team Thursday, making him a free agent.
Bennett broke a bone in his left hand in June when he angrily punched a door in frustration during a loss against the New York Yankees. He was completing a rehab assignment in the minors, while the team was playing against the Florida Marlins in Miami.
Bennett was 2-4 with a 3.18 ERA in 33 appearances this season.
