Wolves pile up early lead, whip Avondale 48-2

Three-time defending state champion Buford rode a 35-point halftime lead to a 48-2 victory over Avondale on Friday at Tom Riden Stadium in Buford.

Darrian Smith scored two rushing touchdowns in the second quarter for Buford (7-1, 3-0 Region 6A-AA).

Class AA's second-ranked Buford now holds a half-game lead over Greater Atlanta Christian (6-1, 2-0) in the subregion. The two will square off at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Atlanta.

Nicholas Garrett, born and raised near the California coastline, required only one visit to Gainesville to fall in love with Riverside Military. Much to his delight, the feeling was mutual. Riverside Military on Tuesday announced Garrett’s hiring as its new football coach, bringing the former college coordinator across the country to revive a program that has won three games over the past two seasons.
