Union County defense clamps down in 21-14 win over Oglethorpe

Clay Burnette led the Panthers with 43 yards on six carries for two touchdowns as Union County defeated Oglethorpe County, 21-14, on Friday in Lexington.

Quarterback T Bentley had the other touchdown for Union County and recorded 76 yards on 18 carries and was 10 for 13 with 125 yards passing.

Johnny Hughes led the team on the ground with 119 yards on 12 carries, and Josh Kim led the receiving corps with 55 yards on three receptions. Lalo Rivera also had 40 yards on four receptions.

Defensively, Union County was led by Matthew Spiwak and Chase Barnett with nine tackles each. Luther Jones had eight tackles with two for loss.

The Panthers tallied 370 yards of total offense while Oglethorpe County had 225.

Union County (4-1, 1-1 Region 8-AA) faces Riverside next week in Blairsville.
