Oglethorpe County scored its first victory of the season Friday night, beating Riverside Military Academy 21-16 at Maginnis Field.
Riverside quarterback Chandler Jones connected on a 35-yard touchdown pass to receiver Javon Thompson with 4:22 left to cut Oglethorpe County’s lead to 21-16.
The Patriots (1-7) went for it on fourth-and-1 on their next possession and converted to run out the clock without giving the Eagles a chance to pull off the comeback.
The Eagles were down 21-3 at the half before running back Kaseem Dukes ran the ball in for a touchdown in the third quarter to make it 21-10.
Riverside (1-6, 0-3 8-AA) visits Greene County 7:30 p.m. next Friday.
