Game of the Week

No. 4 Jefferson at No. 2 Thomson

When: 7:30 p.m. tonight

Where: The Brickyard, Thomson

Records: Jefferson (12-1); Thomson (13-0)

Game notes: Jefferson defeated No. 6 Cairo 17-13 in the quarterfinals last week. Thomson routed Spalding, 30-7 last week.

Tonight’s game will be played in Thomson after a Georgia High School Association rule forced a change in venue. The rule requires 4,000 seats for Classes 4A and 5A, and Jefferson did not enough permanent seating to serve as host.

The Bulldogs are in the Class AAAA semifinal for the first time since 2002, the same year they won the state championship.

A win tonight would put the Dragons in contention for their second state title in program history. The winner faces either Cartersville or Mary Persons at the Georgia Dome next Friday.

Who to watch: Junior running back Colby Wood accounted for 101 of the Dragons’ 156 rushing yards, and punched in the go-ahead score with 17 seconds remaining against the Syrupmakers last week. To date, he has 1,534 yards and 20 touchdowns as the Dragons’ workhorse.

Thomson tailback Michael Thomas is responsible for 2,143 of the Bulldogs’ 4,150 rushing yards, also adding a team-high 23 touchdowns this season.
