Pinecrest Academy defeated Lakeview 43-4 on Friday night at Jock Hornor Field.
The Lions took the lead in the first quarter when Chance Calderhead kicked a 33-yard field goal to make the score 3-0 with 4:08 left to go.
Shortly afterward, Pinecrest scored on a spectacular 73-yard pass by Anthony Carco to wide receiver Christopher Birozes for a touchdown. The extra point made it 7-3.
“That was a momentum-builder for us,” Pinecrest coach Todd Winter said.
In the second quarter with 7:33 to go, quarterback Ryan McCarthy rushed 1 yard for a touchdown.
Right before halftime, Birozes kicked a 30-yard field goal to make it 17-3.
In the third quarter, McCarthy ran for a 2-yard touchdown following a missed field goal. Several minutes passed before McCarthy scored on another 1-yard touchdown to make the score 30-3, Pinecrest.
With 2:31 to go in the third quarter, running back Adam Guard carried 4 yards for a touchdown to add to the Paladins’ lead.
The fourth quarter finished the scoring when Pinecrest quarterback Ryan McCarthy ran 35 yards for a touchdown, the PAT making the final 43-3.
McCarthy rushed for 96 yards while fullback Andrew Wilborn had 64 yards.
The Paladins rushed for a total of 230 yards while the Lions were only able to manage only 81.
Pinecrest finished with 76 passing yards and Lakeview ended with minus-7.
“It was a solid win,” Winter said. “I told the kids at our team meeting before the game that we’ve got to play a complete game. We’ve played some good games. Every week our defense has played really well. But we hadn’t played a complete. I thought we played a very complete game.”
The Paladins have now won three straight games.
