Lumpkin County defeated Madison County 34-20 on Friday night in Dahlonega.
Devonte Young opened the scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run for the Indians after a 70-yard kickoff return by Austin Pierce in the first quarter.
Daniel McCrary set up Lumpkin County’s second score with a 65-yard pass to Jonathan Gilreath before taking the ball in on a 1-yard run to give the Indians a 14-7 lead.
Madison County responded with a touchdown after throwing an interception to the Indians, which the Indians fumbled and recovered before fumbling again, allowing Madison County to recover and return 80 yards for the score.
McCrary scored again on a 1-yard plunge and threw a 25-yard pass to Gilreath to put the Indians up 27-13 at halftime.
Young scored the last touchdown of the game for the Indians to seal the victory.
Lumpkin County (2-4, 2-1 Region 8-AAAA) faces Eastside next Friday in Dahlonega.
