Gainesville spreads the load, routs Cedar Shoals 61-26

Gainesville rolled to its sixth win of the season Friday, beating Cedar Shoals 61-26 in Athens.

Mikey Gonzalez paced the Red Elephants with a solid performance at quarterback, finishing 22 of 31 for 457 yards and five touchdowns and adding 16 yards on nine rushes.

Messiah Dorsey caught 10 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns, and Rodney Lackey and Chris Williamson each caught a touchdown pass.

Michael Byrd added 116 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries and caught four passes for 54 yards for Gainesville. Kadarius Smith scored for Gainesville and had 18 yards on four carries.

Chandler Staton made a 32-yard field goal for the Red Elephants (6-2, 6-1 Region 8-AAAAA), and Gainesville recorded a safety in the fourth quarter.

The Red Elephants play host to Loganville on Friday in Gainesville.
