Commerce holds off Banks County, 28-21

Commerce defeated Banks County 28-21 on Friday in the season opener for both teams in Commerce.

Cole Chancey pushed the Tigers to a win with 15 carries for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Chancey scored on a 9-yard run early in the game before giving Commerce the win with a 14-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Will Thomas added 56 yards on 15 carries for Commerce.

Banks County almost came back to tie the game in the fourth quarter after recovering a Commerce fumble. However, on fourth-and-6 at the 12-yard line, Commerce’s J’Varius Wood intercepted the Banks County pass to save the win.

Jesse Underhile opened the scoring in the game with a 55-yard interception return for a Commerce touchdown. Grant Mayberry also scored for the Tigers.

The teams were tied 14-14 at halftime from a pair of scores by Banks County’s Trevae Cain. He scored on 8- and 3-yard runs in the first half and tied the game at 21 in the second half on a 20-yard run.

Cain paced the Leopards’ offense with nine carries for 71 yards and three scores.

Commerce plays host to Hebron Christian Academy.
