Buford High opened its football season with a 24-7 loss to Class AAAAAAA’s Roswell High in the 25th annual Corky Kell Classic at McEachern High in Powder Springs.
Roswell (1-0) scored 12 seconds into the contest as Xavier McKinney returned the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown.
The Wolves (0-1) got on the board with 37 seconds remaining in the first quarter as Derrian Brown scampered in for a 9-yard score.
The Hornets added another score in the second quarter and two more in the third to complete scoring.
The Wolves were held to 71 yards rushing on 31 attempts, but allowed 203 yards on 36 carries.
Buford quarterback Mic Roof finished the contest 11 of 30 for 132 yards and one interception. Roof was also sacked twice.
The two squads combined for 14 penalties totaling 131 yards.
Next up, Buford will be off before hosting Bishop Timon (N.Y.) on Sept. 2.
