For several years I have been attending the live stream productions of New York’s Metropolitan Opera at our local theater. To say it is one of the arts communities best kept secrets is an understatement.

Each time I comment on having been to a performance, the response is generally that no one knew about the showings. The Jan. 17 performance of “The Merry Widow” was outstanding. I was happy to see a very commendable number attending and hope “word of mouth” is paying off.

Our local arts community is blessed with a variety of high quality groups, but to be able to locally attend a live performance of such superior reputation as The Met for only $20 per person is an exceptional value. If you are interested in opera, you will thoroughly enjoy the next performance, “The Tales of Hoffman,” at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 in the cinemas on Green Hill Circle.
