Summer vacation is finally here! It is also time for the Hall County Library System’s Summer Reading Program.

Reading this summer is vital to our community. A literate and educated community creates jobs, reduces poverty and opens up opportunities to all. The Hall County Library System provides its patrons with resources and services to meet their informational, educational, business and recreational needs.

Numerous studies show children who participate in their libraries’ summer programs do better in school than their peers who do not. Even reading just four books a summer can make a difference in reading achievement scores.

Make sure your children and grandchildren read or are read to this summer. Remember, adults are role models for children, so let them catch you reading, too. The library system also has family programs and adult programs planned this summer, including puppet shows, storytellers, teen book crafts, story times, gardening demonstrations and much more!

So let’s all read together this summer Hall County. Huge thanks to the Friends of the Library and our several corporate sponsors for providing the library with grants, funds and supplies for the summer program for all. Starting Wednesday, children from babies to rising fifth-graders can sign up to be in the Dig Into Reading program, and middle school and high school students can join our Beneath the Surface program.

We are also proud to announce starting June 3, adults can sign up for their own summer program, Ground Breaking Reads.

I hope to see you in the library this summer digging up some good books!
