On July 6, I let my wife out of my pickup truck at a local restaurant. The sky had opened up, and the rainfall was tremendous. I then drove to a parking space, opened the door and my umbrella, locked the door and stepped out.

After we ate, I went to my pickup and found the key was inside and the motor running. As I was wondering how long it would take to get a locksmith, I saw three members of the Gainesville Police Department and after explaining my problem, one of them said, “I’ll be back in 20 minutes.” He was, and he opened the door.

Frankly, I did not need this incident to appreciate how fortunate we are to have such an outstanding police department. Having practiced law since 1959 until recently, I experienced the outstanding quality of the Gainesville Police Department in criminal and other cases over the years. Therefore, I already knew we had the very best police department in the state of Georgia.
