Letter: Venezuela shows why socialism is not the answer
06292018 VENEZUELA
A demonstrator from Las Minitas shantytown holds up a poster that reads in Spanish “Four weeks without water” April 27, 2018, after water service was suspended in Caracas, Venezuela. Venezuela’s meltdown has been accelerating under President Nicolas Maduro’s rule, prompting masses of people to abandon the nation in frustration at shortages of food and medicine, street violence, rampant blackouts, and water.
A few months ago I wrote a letter asking how people could want socialism after seeing what is happening in Venezuela. I also commented that if a socialist nation gets the wrong leader, they are in trouble. Venezuela did — twice.
