Opinion: Democrat Party’s actions aren’t helping America

Mr. Crumley of Gainesville, I read Mr. Hulsey’s letter published on Jan. 1 and your criticism of that letter published Jan. 8

His letter did little more than reflect what the Democrat Party has been all about, particularly since Obama was elected and reelected. Yet it seems that his letter got on your best nerve.

In case you hadn’t noticed, at this point in time we live in a very divided nation that is badly in need of unification and a return to the Judeo-Christian principles on which it was founded. It would appear that Mr. Hulsey has a pretty good grasp of the views of the ultra-left who are in the leadership positions in the Democrat Party.

Poverty in this country is wide spread, but a high percentage is concentrated in large cities that are under Democrat leadership, not to mention failing Title I schools (policies have consequences).

Exact numbers are debatable, but we have become a predominantly secular society. Listen to the music and watch the majority of the movies coming out of Hollywood.

Our liberal education system is rewriting our history and taking down monuments, but that doesn’t change our history.

Three well-documented books that you might appreciate looking at our history in a rational thinking manner, backed by facts, written by Dinesh D’Souza are, “What’s So Great About America,” “The Roots of Obama’s Rage” and “The Big Lie.”

Some additional background reading recommended by D’Souza are “Ideas Have Consequences” by Richard M. Weaver, “Men and Marriage” by George Gilder and “Atlas Shrugged,” a novel by Ayn Rand (I believe a movie was made based on this book).

Several years ago, Zell Miller, perhaps somewhat like your father, was a lifelong Democrat. Zell switched to the Republican Party. He stated that he didn’t leave the Democrat Party, the party left him. That has been quite common since our eight-year experience with the Obama administration, while Obama tried to fulfill the dreams of his father.

We heard great speeches almost daily that dealt with the issues, making folks assume he was addressing those issues, yet his actions proved the exact opposite. He did his best to undermine our country and our Constitution, which he swore to uphold. I wouldn’t call that patriotic.

Regarding Mr. Hulsey’s comment on patriotism, I’m afraid it’s a matter of guilt by association to call yourself a Democrat. As a result, making America great again was right on target. And you may have noticed, that against incredible odds of the daily anti-Trump drum beat from the left, he has accomplished several changes for the benefit of the country — that’s for We the People rather than for a personal agenda.
