It has recently become apparent in the heart- wrenching separations of young children from their parents at our border, that there is a lack of merciful discretion in U.S. practices for detaining immigrants and asylum seekers. Here in Georgia, private prison companies run detention centers that treat nonviolent detainees like hardened criminals
