Letter: Congress should take action to pass sensible gun restrictions
02192018 SHOOTING
Mourners gather Feb. 15, 2018, at a vigil that was held for the victims of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. ( Jim Rassol/South Florida Sun-Sentinel via AP)

How many more innocent lives must be taken before you will walk away from the grasp of the NRA and toward protecting our citizens by enacting sensible gun laws for our country?

The right to bear arms is explicit in our nation’s history, but the types of weapons that have been born from modern technology and the horrific damage they can do were not a part of the founders’ equation.

I urge my elected officials to do their jobs and bring our gun laws up to date and in line. We need protections to keep guns out of the hands of those unable to take the responsibility or who are bent on doing harm to others.

People with guns kill other people. To my representatives: Do your job now and close the loopholes so that gun deaths can be a thing of the past.
