Rep. Doug Collins, you have stated your opinion as to the Second Amendment in The Times and also regarding the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. But I have not seen any opinions you may have regarding legislation and actions which might reduce future tragedies.

Rep. Doug Collins, you have stated your opinion as to the Second Amendment in The Times and also regarding the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. But I have not seen any opinions you may have regarding legislation and actions which might reduce future tragedies.

I have also seen where you recently received $4,500 from the NRA. Congressman, your receiving such funds could lead to skeptics thinking you have been bought by the all-powerful NRA. If your opinions are truly your own, why not refuse their contributions? You may want to pass on this concept to your fellow Georgia Republican representatives and senators who are also receiving NRA money.

I, too, support the Second Amendment but believe there is plenty of space for legislative action to reduce some of our problems. This would include banning bump stocks and automatic weapons; increasing the age to 21 to purchase or own a gun; require background checks on the purchase of guns at a gun show; banning the purchase of guns and ammunition over the internet; and placing restrictions on assault-type weapons.

This is only a partial list of action Congress could take which would not be in violation of the Second Amendment.

You should also consider introducing buy-back legislation financed and supported by federal, state and local governments. Private and nonprofit organizations could also contribute. As an example, retail, including restaurants, could contribute gift certificates partially paid by government organizations.

Rep. Collins, why not begin thinking outside the box to come up with and support ideas that will be more than one little change you referred to in The Times?
