Letter: Liberals are still in denial over fact Trump was elected

If you’re concerned about America being a deeply divided nation, the first month of Donald Trump’s presidency provides some keen perspective.

Liberals are still in denial over Hillary Clinton not becoming president. Many have thrown terrible temper tantrums and staged countless demonstrations laced with vulgarities, vitriol and violence. In doing so, they exhibit a blatant disregard for the rule of law and orderly conduct.

Conversely, when conservatives endured eight long years of Barack Obama’s ultraliberal worldview, they founded the tea party. Instead of filling the streets with rowdy confrontations, they crowded the nation’s town halls and worked calmly to change the course of America. Against steep odds, Trump decisively defeated Clinton because enough citizens were disgusted with the direction of the nation.

In a republic form of government, our leaders are chosen in free elections. I wasn’t happy to see my candidates lose in 2008 and 2012. However, while Obama was in the White House, I used rhetoric and prose, not mindless riots and lewd behavior, to convince as many people as possible to vote for a conservative candidate in the 2016 election.

Elections have consequences. If you don’t like what happened Nov. 8, stop trying to silence conservative voices through smear campaigns, vehemence and a total disregard for civility. Instead, work peacefully, politely and professionally toward getting more people to vote your way in the 2020 election.

Liberals frequently label conservatives as “intolerant.” Yet, whenever conservatives try to stand up for what they believe, they’re shouted down at public events and often prevented from speaking. If conservatives had hit the streets protesting Obama as president, many liberals would have screamed “racism.” This is the epitome of intolerance and hypocrisy.

Unfortunately, the intolerant conduct of liberals is likely to increase dramatically. Many don’t play by the rules of civil discourse, nor do they respect the American way of life, and prefer chaos over common sense. They’re a bitter, boisterous and belligerent people who are hell-bent on taking America down a dark, destructive path.

These combative, sinister tactics are backfiring. Acting immaturely, irrationally and irresponsibly just validates a  reputation as sore losers who can’t accept reality. Donald J. Trump is the president! No matter how much you might hate him, he was elected to return America to the conservative roots of our founding, and that’s exactly what he’s going to do over the next four or more years.

Some 50 years ago, this writer gained a unique insight into why America is the most exceptional nation ever conceived. I served in communist Poland in the 1960s as a Marine security guard at the American embassy in Warsaw. It was an eye-opening experience. Unless you’ve seen firsthand how others live outside our borders, you can’t fully appreciate the greatness of America.

So, liberals, get over your disappointment and grow up. If you don’t love and respect the homeland that many patriotic Americans have died to preserve, then here’s my suggestion: The international flights of Delta are ready when you are!
