Letter: A thanks to Gainesville's hospitality from Council of the Blind visitors

I would like to thank Mayor Danny Dunagan and the kind folks of Gainesville for the warm welcome given to the Georgia Council of the Blind on the weekend of April 28-29. GCB held its annual convention and conference at the beautiful Ramada Inn Lanier Centre. Members and their families visited from across the state for a weekend of meetings and fun activities.

Thanks go out to Ken Johnston and Glen Kyle and the staff of Northeast Georgia History Center, who provided us with a wonderful, hands-on tour of the center, inside and out. GCB also sponsored a tandem bike ride at the new Midtown Greenway. This was perfect for our members with its wide, paved trails and landscaping.

GCB members had a great time the whole weekend. We want to say a special thank you to Cathy Scarbrough, director of sales and catering at the Lanier Centre. She worked with us for months planning our event. The convention was a success due primarily to her expertise and her skilled staff. They went beyond the call of duty to meet our needs, and they provided delicious food the entire weekend.

This is the first time in nearly 30 years Gainesville has been the site of the GCB convention, and our members enthusiastically agreed we want to come back soon. Thank you to all who helped us.
