Workers rescued from Cargill silo after lift malfunction
Cargill
Two workers were rescued Friday inside this silo at Cargill in Gainesville after the lift they were on malfunctioned, leaving them stranded.

Two employees doing maintenance work inside a Cargill silo were helped down by Gainesville firefighters after their lift malfunctioned, according to authorities.

Gainesville Fire took the call around 11:30 a.m. regarding two employees at the Gainesville silo.

“While it was extended, I’d have to be guesstimating 30 or 40 feet in the air, the lift quit working,” Gainesville Fire spokesman Keith Smith said.

Within the hour, authorities were in position to hoist the workers out of the lift and bring them down.

No injuries were reported, Smith said, but Hall County units were also on scene as a precautionary measure.
