A Gainesville woman was ejected from a Jeep, run over by another car and killed late Friday on Ga. 400 in Dawson County, officials said.

Dawson County Coroner Ted Bearden identified the accident victim as 24-year-old Jenna Annette Fitzgerald.

The Georgia State Patrol said the wreck occurred about 10:20 p.m. in the southbound lane of Ga. 400 when the driver of the Jeep attempted to make a left turn onto Whitmire Road and Fitzgerald fell from the vehicle into the northbound lanes.

Fitzgerald was struck by a passing Ford Freestar minivan and killed.

The driver of the Jeep, Colon Louis Hartzler, 43, of Dawsonville, stopped to help Fitzgerald and also was struck by the passing car. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

Charges against Hartzler are pending the outcome of the investigation.

Alcohol was involved in the accident, according to the state patrol.

The driver of the second car that struck both victims, Michelle Nicole Chirillo, 20, of Dawsonville, was not charged.

The accident remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol and GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.
