A Gainesville woman was killed late Monday night when the car she was driving crossed the center line of Green Street, according to a preliminary investigation by Gainesville Police.

Police on Tuesday identified the victim as Lisa Jane Ferrell, 62.

“The crash remains under investigation at this time,” Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook wrote in an email. “It is possible that Ferrell suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.”

Ferrell was trapped in her Toyota Camry before being transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in critical condition in the March 19 wreck north of Green Street Place in Gainesville.

She was driving a Camry southbound on Green Street when it struck a Taxi El Sol van head-on.

Ferrell was the only person in the Camry. Police said Monday they believed two people were in the taxi.

Ferrell came to The Times as advertising director in 2004, and she later served in the same capacity with the Forsyth County News. She subsequently worked for a number of other media companies in the area.
