Woman, child from Gainesville killed in Alabama wreck

A Gainesville woman and child were killed in an east Alabama wreck the day before Thanksgiving.

Maria Arteaga, 56, and a 10-year-old child were killed on Nov. 22 in a rollover on Interstate 20/59 in Sumter County on the border with Mississippi. The driver, 61-year-old Eduardo Arteaga, survived the crash and was transported to a hospital in Mississippi.

They were traveling in a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado, and the two victims of the crash weren’t wearing seat belts, according to Alabama media reports and the Alabama state troopers.

Alabama Trooper Reginal King told local media that the two people killed in the wreck were from Gainesville. He could not be reached for additional questions on Monday.
