A Cumming woman was charged Tuesday with DUI in a two-car wreck that injured two teenagers, one seriously, on Ga. 60/Thompson Bridge Road south of Willow Oak Drive.

Kathryn Pledger, 24, was driving a Kia Optima north on Ga. 60 when she crossed into the southbound lane near Squirrel Creek and struck an Acura head-on, said Tracey Watson of the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
The wreck happened at about 9:47 a.m., shutting down traffic on Thompson Bridge Road while authorities worked at the scene.

The driver of the Acura, James Baird, 17, of Flowery Branch, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. He was later treated and released.

The front-seat passenger in the Acura, Jessica Tanner, 17, of Gainesville, was flown by a medical helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta with serious injuries.

Pledger “complained of injury but refused transport,” Watson said.

Hall County Fire Services Capt. Scott Cagle had said that one person was trapped in the wreckage and that the other victim had minor injuries.

Pledger also has been charged with serious injury by vehicle, failure to maintain lane and expired registration, Watson said.

Pledger was taken to Hall County Jail, said Deputy Chad Mann, spokesman for the Hall County
Sheriff’s Office.
