The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a stabbing and possible sexual assault of a 24-year-old woman Wednesday morning at a North Hall home.
Upon arrival at the house, deputies found that the woman had been stabbed in the abdomen.
She told authorities that the man, a stranger, had confronted her at her home, then assaulted her, took some unknown items and fled the scene.
The woman was treated at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
The assault took place just after 9 a.m. at a home on Avalon Commons Way, part of an upscale neighborhood off Bethel Road, about 4 miles southeast of Clermont.
The neighborhood has "been there for a few years, but is only partially built out," said Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks, sheriff’s spokesman.
No further suspect or vehicle information was available Wednesday.
The woman "was not able to provide any further information, only that the (attacker) had left the house," Wilbanks said.
A sheriff’s K-9 unit searched the area but couldn’t find signs of "human foot traffic."
"Obviously, this would seem to indicate that (the suspect) departed by vehicle, but since neither the victim nor any witness saw it, we can’t say so with certainty," Wilbanks said.
As for other information about the attack, including where at the house it happened, "all those details are still under investigation," he added.
Wilbanks did say the woman was alone at the time.
Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact investigators at 770-531-6879.
