A Dacula woman is accused of leaving her 6-year-old son in a car at Lanier Islands with the keys in the ignition and the vehicle in neutral.

Authorities said Gwendolyn Claire Truby, 41, “had entered a wedding party and was asking for drinks. Truby did not remember where she had left her car.” The child was found safe asleep in the back seat without injuries.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said the vehicle was located on a dirt area leading to the lake, approximately 40 yards from the waterfront.

“Approximately halfway from the vehicle’s location and the water was a substantial drop-off of the terrain,” Lt. Scott Ware wrote in a news release.

Truby is charged with second-degree cruelty to children, reckless conduct and public drunkenness.

Ware said the boy was released to his father, and the Department of Family and Children Services was notified about the incident.

Truby was arrested and booked in to the Hall County Jail but is no longer listed in the jail’s inmate list.

A message left Monday afternoon seeking comment from Truby was not returned.
